Context
A leading semiconductor company wanted a comprehensive Smart Front-End Software Reference Platform for their next-generation display system controllers. The solution needed to integrate a high-performance MediaTek MT9660/MT9269 Android/Linux Application Processors with the client’s proprietary video-processing Controller Unit. The objective was to enable features such as 4K playback, automated image correction, and sensor-assisted enhancements, while supporting both consumer and enterprise product lines across two hardware platforms.

Reference Design Development:
Defined scalable hardware architecture, power design, and interfacing of MT9660/MT9269 modules with Wi-Fi, ToF camera, IR sensors, USB 3.0/Type-C, HDMI, DDR, and eMMC.
Full Software Stack Implementation:
Built Android/Linux AOSP components, Smart Display UI, and control frameworks.
Deep Integration:
Bridged Application Processor stacks with the Controller Unit via Vx1/HDMI 2.1 for video and I2C/SPI for control.
Feature Enablement:
Developed algorithms for Keystone/Warping, ToF-based autofocus, and support for advanced formats such as 4K@60Hz, HDR10+/HLG.
Validation:
Independently tested AP and Controller reference designs, followed by full system-level integration.
Custom Interface Bridging:
Creating the Projector Command API and adapting HDMI/Vx1 drivers to translate video/control signals between Android frameworks and the client’s specialized Controller firmware.
Advanced Image Algorithms:
Implementing 2D Keystone, Auto Focus, and ToF-based depth mapping with synchronized camera inputs—requiring tight co-development planning.
Power & Performance Optimization:
Managing low-latency paths on MT9660 and defining system-level power/battery management across the dual-board solution.
The most significant challenge was coordinating dependencies across three parallel streams:
The client’s Controller Unit, MediaTek’s AP platform, and Eximietas’ system software. Additional challenges included delivering rapid functional increments—Milestone 1 (reference design bring-up), Milestone 2 (Keystone/Auto Focus), Milestone 3 (interactivity, battery/power features)—while maintaining overall schedule alignment for the aggressive market windows
Eximietas delivered comprehensive product engineering services, including system architecture, embedded software development, and multi-layer integration validation, helping the client accelerate its entry into the smart display market.
- The scalable architecture now supports multiple product tiers and hardware variants.
- The structured execution enabled the team to meet demanding go-to-market dates while managing a large and complex embedded software program.
