Android Framework Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Android Framework Engineer to contribute to the development and enhancement of custom Android platform features. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the Android OS stack, particularly the Application Framework layer, and a solid understanding of AOSP, HAL, and system services. This role involves close collaboration with hardware, middleware, and app teams to deliver robust and scalable software solutions on Android-powered devices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain features at the Android Framework layer (Java/Kotlin)
  • Integrate Android Framework components with native system services (C/C++) and HALs
  • Modify and extend AOSP to meet custom platform or product requirements
  • Work with product teams to expose new APIs and services for system-level functionality
  • Collaborate with HAL and Kernel teams for end-to-end feature enablement
  • Debug issues across Android layers: Java framework, native libraries, HAL, and kernel
  • Analyze logs using tools like adb, logcat, bugreport, and systrace
  • Ensure compliance with Android CTS/VTS standards and security best practices
  • Work with Android upgrade projects (e.g., Android 10 to 11, 11 to 12)

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • 3–6 years of experience in Android platform/framework development
  • Strong knowledge of Android Internals, including System Services, Binder, and IPC
  • Proficient in Java, with a working knowledge of C/C++ and JNI
  • Hands-on experience in modifying or developing Android Framework modules (e.g., Power, Input, Connectivity, Media, etc.)
  • Experience in debugging Android system issues (boot failures, ANRs, crashes, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Android build system, AOSP structure, and repo management
  • Good understanding of HAL layers, AIDL, and Android security model
  • Exposure to Android device bring-up and feature porting across Android versions

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or related fields
